Rhine is one of the major european rivers, which has its sources in Switzerland and empts into the North Sea.

The lenght of the Rhine is conventionally measured in “Rhine-Kilometers”, a scale introduced in 1989 which runs from the Old Rhine Bridge to Hoke van Holand. This fact makes it difficult to measure this river objectively. Despite this difficulty, it was cited as 1.232 kilometers long.

An interesting fact about this river, apart of it being measured in “Rhine-Kilometers”, is its importance in the Holy Roman Empire. This importance is now supported by the many castles and fortifications built along it. In the modern era, it has become a symbol of German Nationalism.
