Pink Floyd were a rock band. They were founded in 1965 by Syd Barrett (guitar), Roger Waters (bass guitar), Nick Mason (drums) and Richard Wright (keyboards); but later Syd Barret was replaced by David Gilmour and that was the successful and definitive formation. Their rock, progressive and psychedelic music was successful in the music world because they used philosophical lyrics, good compositions and crafted live shows.
Their first album was The Piper at the Gates of Dawn in 1967. But the most successful and brilliant albums that they made were those they released from 1973 to 1979. Albums like The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here and The Wall were determining for rock’s history.
That historic formation finished in 1979, when Wright let the band; Waters did the same in 1985. Later, Wright returned to the band, but it wouldn’t be the same again. They produced two more albums: A Momentary Lapse of Reason (1987) and The Division Bell (1994).
Richard Wright died on 2008 at age 65. The band won’t be the same again.
