The London Eye is the tallest Ferris wheel in Europe, and the most popular paid tourist attraction in the United Kingdom (UK), visited by over 3.5 million of people annually(10.000 visitors every day). The construction of the London Eye took 1 year and 6 months to build. In the process over 1700 tonnes of steel were used for the structure and other 3000 tonnes for the foundations. It is 135 meters high, it has 32 capsules and you can see up to 40 kilometers away in all directions from each capsule. When erect in 1999, it was the tallest Ferris wheel in the world.
It is located at the Western end of Jubilee Gardens, on the South Bank of the River Thames in the London Borough of Lambeth in England, between Westminster Bridge and Hungerford Bridge.
It was formally opened by the Prime Minister, Tony Blair, on 31 December 1999, although it was not opened to the public in 2000 because it had got technical problems. Since 2000 to this year The London Eye is the most popular attraction in the Europe.
