According to the legend a giant called Geryon was terrifying all the inhabitants in a village. Hercules, Zeus son, came to help the village. Hercules faced him and the combat lasted for three long days. After the long fight, Hercules defeated and killed Geryon, he cut his head off and he ordered to build a tower on this head to commemorate his victory.
It is said that the first person to inhabit this piece of land was a woman called Cruña, and that is where the name of the new town comes from. This is why the city crest has had the tower and Geryon’s skull underneath since 1448.
